ANIMAL CONTROL INFORMATION

LICENSING YOUR DOG
All dogs over the age of 6 months are required to have a tag. Licensing is the best insurance for having a missing dog returned. Even if your dog is “always in the yard”, gates can accidentally be left open, holes can be dug under fences, and they always seem to find the hole in the fence. A tag is like your dog’s driver’s license. Because you have to renew it every year, your information is kept on file in association with your dog’s tag number so if it ends up in the shelter, we can call you to come and get him or her.

LICENSING FEES

January 1st – August 31st                       $25

September 1st – December 31st            $12.50

Licenses can be purchased at the Town Administration Building located at
4829 – 50th Street.

*** You must purchase a new license every year***

PENALTIES

Running at large            $75
No tag                          $25
Total Fine                 $100 (plus $15/day boarding at the shelter)

LOST & FOUND
If you find a stray cat or dog within Town limits, you can contact Special Constable Ken Podoborozny at 632-2606 to come and pick it up or you can bring the animal to the shelter at the Public Works Department located at 5417 Birch Avenue.

If you have lost your pet, you can phone Special Constable Ken Podoborozny or call the Public Works Department at 632-3439 to give your contact information and a description of your lost friend. You can also arrange to see the animals in the shelter to check if they are there. If your lost loved one is in the shelter, you will be advised of a total fine which must be paid at the Town Administration Building. Once all fines have been paid, you can arrange with Special Constable Ken Podoborozny to have your pet released. You must bring your receipt with you to the shelter.

ADOPTIONS

If an owner has not come to claim their animal, he/she will be put up for adoption. Adoption is free of charge.
