A Successful TD Tree Days Event!

On September 23, 2018, the Town of Vegreville hosted a TD Tree Days event.  On a chilly, wet and muddy Sunday morning between 9:00 am and noon, Town and TD Employees and volunteers braved the elements to plant 150 trees in a green space on the west side of town by Highway 16A and 75 Street.  Three species of native trees were planted; Jack Pine, Lodgepole Pine, and Paper Birch trees.

This project will not only beautify the existing area with native species trees, it will also reduce maintenance costs.  This large area will be returned to a more natural state and will not need to be mowed on a regular cycle as it was before.  More Green = Less Greenhouse Gas!

As with many events in Town, the success of this event was in large part due to the amazing volunteers.  Giving your time and hard work in less than ideal weather conditions has helped create this wonderful little forest for wildlife, Town residents and visitors to enjoy now and well into the future.  Thank you!!

The Program

TD launched a new corporate platform in 2018 called The Ready Commitment which supports initiatives and programs within four areas: Financial Security, Vibrant Planet, Connected Communities, and Better Health.  TD Tree Days, which has been bringing people together since 2010, was incorporated into The Ready Commitment with a target of helping plant one million trees by 2030.  To date, over 300,000 trees and native shrubs have been planted through TD Tree Days in communities across North America.  This fall will see another 100 green spaces further enhanced for everyone to enjoy.
