2019/2020 Alberta Transportation Construction Projects
affecting traffic flow in the Town of Vegreville

Alberta Transportation has awarded a contract to PCL (Pool Construction Ltd.) to remove and replace the bridge on Hwy 857 (Bruce Rd.) south of 41 Ave. This project will FULLY CLOSE the road and take approximately 18 months to complete due to restrictions of working within a waterway. Therefore, during the full closure of Hwy 857 (Bruce Rd.) south of 41 Ave to Hwy 16 traffic will be detoured to Maple (60th) Street and 55 Ave. (Twp. Rd. 523).

Prior to the work on Hwy 857 (Bruce Rd.) Alberta Transportation, through contracted services, will be rehabilitating the portion of Maple (60th) Street from south of 41 Ave to 45 Ave to ensure that Maple (60th) Street will hold up to the increased traffic volume and size of vehicles. This phase of the project will FULLY CLOSE Maple (60th) Street for approximately two weeks.

Proposed Project Schedule:

Phase One: June 5, 2019 Maple (60th) Street closed from south of 41 Ave to 45 Ave (approx. 4 weeks)

  • Road work

Phase Two: July 2, 2019 Hwy 857 (Bruce Rd.) closed from 41 Ave to HWY 16

  • Remove salvage existing bridge and other works

WINTER SHUT DOWN September 2019 (some bank enhancement in January 2020) Hwy 857 (Bruce Rd.) from 41 Ave to Hwy 16 will remain FULLY CLOSED.

Phase Three: May 2020

  • New Bridge and Road works

Project Completion and Road FULLY Open September 2020

During this time frame the Town of Vegreville, Alberta Transportation and PCL appreciates everyone understanding and respect for the detours and work zones.

Thank You for your patience while this required construction is completed.
