Town announces additional facility closures

To ensure the safety of our residents, staff, and the most vulnerable in our community, and to support the prevention of COVID-19 spread in our Province, Town of Vegreville Council has ordered the immediate closure of all Town facilities until further notice.

Although closed to the public, Town Staff will remain in office and on-site to ensure the day-to-day operation of the Town proceeds with minimal interruption. Inquiries and services typically delivered in person will take place over the phone or by email. We have developed a town directory that is available on our website. The directory will also be mailed to residents with utility bills.

To maintain transparency and to allow the public to observe the legislative process during our closure, Town Staff is working diligently to set up live-streaming for regular Council and Legislative Committee meetings. Details regarding the Town's live-streaming is forthcoming.

Vegreville & District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is working purposefully to ensure those who rely on their services continue to receive them during these trying times. More information regarding the Vegreville & District FCSS's programming is forthcoming. Until this information is released, please contact our FCSS Department directly at 780-632-3966.

After coming to these decisions, Mayor Tim MacPhee stated, "Council and I recognize that limiting public access to our buildings and departments can make it challenging for our citizens, but we want to reassure our residents that it's in public health's best interest. To ensure our essential services continue with minimal interruption, we need to keep our staff healthy. As a small business owner, I know how valuable face-to-face interaction is and how far it goes in delivering quality service. I kindly ask for your patience as we navigate these uncharted waters. We can't say how long our closure will last. Council and I simply don't know. But, what I can say is, the Town will continue to monitor the situation very closely, and as soon we can reopen to the public and return to a level of normalcy, we will."
